Our girls took park in a Futsal tournament at Aldersley Leisure Village. We took seven girls to represent Team Edwards to the 5-aside-tournament and all seven did us proud! Four girls from Year 5 Jorgie Baker-Stanley who was our amazing goalkeeper keeping clean sheets throughout the group stages, not letting any goal into her net – a real safe pair of hands! Shareen Pawar and Jessica Philips two fantastic defenders helping to protect the goal and often using their strength and passion to get the ball back up the pitch. And Neve Carter in midfield whose confidence and team spirit shone throughout the tournament. Representing Team Edwards from Year 6 were Annabel Morrison in defence, who was able to use all her invasion games knowledge from other team sports to ensure she stuck to their strikers like glue and got the ball from their feet. Shylah Meredith our superstar in midfield moved seamlessly into defence and up front whenever needed, she has fantastic tactical knowledge of her positioning and others and scored a super goal to top it off. And up front Alanna Speeke our lone striker and team Captain, she led our team to the semi-finals showing off her leadership skill and drive to succeed.
After flying through the group stages, we met our friends Palmers Cross in the Semi-final (the staff from both teams were just as competitive as the children). After holding Palmers to a 0-0 draw at full time, we entered a two-minute golden goal period. Unfortunately, that was where our journey ended after Palmers Cross scored to take them through to the final. We stayed to support our friends Palmers Cross who came second overall, A big well done to them.
Overall, we finished third in the tournament! As Edward the Elder Girls football/Futsal team has only been going for two years, we could be prouder of this achievement! Our team are just fantastic, those that were with us for the beginning of our journey and those that are looking forward to joining us in the future, what an exciting time it had been and will be!
A massive thanks to all for the continued support, especially those waving us off and wishing us luck with the tournament.
Thanks all and stay active!
Mrs L Harper 😊
