Firstly, can we express our apologies for this late communication, however as I am sure you appreciate there has been a lot for schools to deal with over the last few days. As you are probably aware, the numbers of positive Covid cases have been rapidly increasing in Wolverhampton and this has impacted on the staffing within our schools. The number of cases in Wolverhampton mirrors the major rise in London.
An unfortunate consequence of this, is that we will not be able to open Edward the Elder to your children tomorrow (5/1/21) as we had previously, planned. This is due to severe staffing shortages. This is not a decision that we have taken lightly but we have to put the safety of your children as our priority. School will be closed for the remainder of this week and we will review the situation later in the week and will subsequently contact you regarding week beginning 11.1.21.
School will be open for our vulnerable pupils and those children of key workers during this time. In a similar way to the previous ‘lockdown’; proof of your job title may be requested particularly if not seen previously. If you are eligible and require a place for your child could you contact the school by phone or email as soon as possible. The school day will run from 8.45am to 3.15pm – entrance will be through main Reception and exit through the external hall doors.
For children who are not able to attend school, staff will provide online learning, daily from tomorrow via emails (please ensure school have an appropriate email address for your child). Staff will also send out TEAMs invites to enable your child to join in with class stories, face to face discussions in a similar way to parents’ evenings. If your child does not have the facilities to access online learning please contact school so we can provide alternative work.
If your child is entitled to Free School Meals (not the universal free meals for all KS1 pupils) and you would like school to provide a lunch each day for them, please contact school and let them know. These meals will need collecting each day from the office from 11.30am.
Finally, can we thank you for your continued support during these difficult times.
Mrs Bridget Highman
Head of School
