November 2017

On  Friday 3rd November, children from Key Stage 2 watched a live First Aid show during school time  hosted by St John’s Ambulance.
The Big First Aid lesson is a live show which is broadcasted nationally which includes practical elements, animations and interactive activities that aim to give our children lifesaving skills.
This year it was themed around the familiar scenario of Fire-work night, with a ‘Vlog’ presentation style, pupils  observed real-life first aid situations that they could relate to, as well as demonstrations of relevant first
aid techniques, including important bonfire night safety tips.
As this event is run by St John’s Ambulance it aims to make first aid accessible, easy to learn and fun to all ages.

On Monday 24th November the woodwind players from Edward the Elder performed in a concert at the Music School, Graiseley. The concert included children from across the city, playing a real variety of music. Some were preparing for exams and others were using the concert for performance practice. The audience were 'wowed' by our rendition of Fleur East's 'Play that Sax' complete with finger clicks. The children enjoyed playing to an audience of over a hundred people and were also able to listen to some more advanced players from Wolverhampton secondary schools. Well done to all who joined in.

West Midlands Fire Service visited year 4 on Wednesday 1st November. The firefighters talked to the children about various hazards, causes of fire and what they should do in case of a fire. The children were shown various ways to stay safe and rules they should follow, as well as where smoke alarms should be placed in the home. Year 4 children really enjoyed learning about this, particularly the chance to practice 'STOP, DROP and ROLL' to put out a fire.
