Theme Days

July 2022

We have thoroughly enjoyed our week celebrating the Commonwealth Games here at Edward the Elder. We have learnt lots about different countries and have enjoyed taking part in the in house games at the different schools across our trust. We are so proud of our children that have represented us at these events. They have shown great sportsmanship and teamwork. It has been wonderful seeing all of the schools unite together and celebrate this special time.

June 2022

Children had a great day celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
They arrived at school looking amazing wearing red, white and blue and they got straight to work colouring in their own Union Jack flag ready for the afternoon on the field singing the National Anthem and eating ice-lollies.
The rest of the day was filled with taking part in some 1950's games and writing some super acrostic Jubilee poems.
The highlight of the day had to be our very own 'Royal Variety Performance' all performers were amazing and kept the rest of the school entertained.

What a wonderful day we all had celebrating 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II.

May 2022

Years 5 and 6 took part in an assembly and workshops lead by Sea Cadets. The children learnt key vocabulary, how to tie different knots then moved onto learning about buoyancy where they had to design and create their own boat. There was a clear winner in Year 6 with 43 marbles before the boat sank!

What an amazing day Year 4 had learning about the Ancient Greeks.

The children were transported back in time by Steve from Humph's Histories who taught the children a range of information about the Ancient Greeks including how they can find out about the past and how we can learn about the past by what was left behind.
There were lots of hands-on activities also that the children thoroughly enjoyed especially making and painting Greek shields, crushing grapes with their feet, solving the Archimedes Puzzle, exploring the different foods the Ancient Greeks ate and putting their teamwork to the test by exploring different battle formations.

A superb day of learning that will stay in their memories for many years to come.

After solving the mystery, they made news reports on the suspects and their alibis. What a fantastic day!

To mark Edward the Elder learning French for a whole year, we held a French Day on 25th March. Children and staff were invited to wear blue, white and red or traditional French clothing. Classes participated in a range of French themed activities including singing, playing bowls, French themed Easter Egg hunt and crafts. Children were even able to taste traditional French cuisine.

Year 4's 2022 has started with a bang with their Hey Mr. DJ Thematic Day.
Some very excited children arrived in school with some amazing costumes and facts about their musical artists ranging from Elvis Presley to The Rembrandts to Skepsis.
Thank you to all the families for getting involved with the day and helping inspire the children to learn about different music genres.

Year 2 had an amazing Inspiration Day for 'Rumble in the Jungle!' today. They completed their own knowledge web so we know what we want to find out, ate lots of animal snacks and held our own 'I'm an Edwards Campmate, Get Me Out of Here!' The trials were so fun - the children put their hands in things like baked beans and rice pudding to get the stars and even had to get carrots out of water with only their mouths! What a start to the topic!
